Acerca de (About us)
The Chiapas Maya Project (CMP) was conceived in 2018 to create a virtual archive of the material culture of the Highland Maya of Chiapas, Mexico. The archive includes objects, images, recordings, and written records documenting a rapidly changing culture.
Over time, it has become a more comprehensive project, connecting museum collections, weaving cooperatives, collectives, weavers, artists, intellectual property specialists, and academics. Our mission is two-fold: to create a virtual archive and use the process and product to train a new generation in documentation and care.
The mission of the Chiapas Maya Project is to create a digital record of Highland Maya material culture using artifacts, archives, photography, and art to weave networks between curators, researchers, weavers, artists, and others. Use this record to train interns in documentation, curation, and conservation through the project website.

- Digital access to historic collections provides a context for a changing culture.
- Use the project as a tool to train young scholars and practitioners, especially the Maya, in curation, documentation, and care.
